Its a phenomenon known to many in the industry but only a few dare to discuss.  The call center industry in India has reached its plateau and now that there is a Philippine option, the race is on to get the call center seats moved to the Philippines.

Why? These call center clients realized that they will get better English speaking agents in the Philippines.

Indian must be really scared of losing their call center jobs to the Filipinos.  Editorial pages in newspapers there call for immediate attention and action from the government to stop the move of their clients to Philippine shores.  The Pinoys, on the other hand, quietly waits and watch this migration unfold.

The call-center business in the Philippines does not receive the respect it deserves for its economic impact but India, our main competitor for outsourced work in Asia, is cringing on this realization.  Reading the daily Indian newspapers there, you’ll learn that India knows that they cannot go head to head with Filipino call-center agents in terms of quality of English, excellence in customer service and lower labor cost. They realize their clients are closing their centers in India only to move jobs in the Philippines.

India on the other hand, is still unbeatable in BPO & ITO work.  These are top quality but high earning outsourced jobs.  This should be taken into a quick look by the Philippine government on how we can get the bigger piece of the pie.

This is an opportunity we Filipinos should not waste.  We should improve more in our craft because soon, other Asian countries will be competing with us.  But I think that is still some years ahead.  In the meantime, let’s enjoy it while it last.
